Greetings, Request Network community!

Welcome to the Request Network ecosystem update for July 2025.

The Ecosystem Update highlights Request Network Foundation’s latest progress and showcases API advancements for payments, invoicing, and onchain tracking.

Tech update

Recurring Payments: Subscriptions and Payouts Now Live 🚀

July marked a major milestone with the launch of our highly anticipated Recurring Payments feature, unlocking crypto-native subscriptions and automated payouts for the Request Network ecosystem.

Whats New

Subscriptions Made Simple: Create subscription-like payments that execute automatically on the blockchain. With a single EIP-712 signature from the payer, businesses can now set up recurring revenue streams that run on autopilot - whether daily, monthly, quarterly, or annually.

Automated Recurring Payouts: Perfect for payroll, bounties, or supplier payments. Set the schedule once, and payments execute automatically at specified intervals with full on-chain transparency.

Enterprise-Grade Security: Built on non-custodial smart contracts with multiple security layers:

  • Signature-protected payments with EIP-712 verification

  • Immutable recipient addresses and fixed payment amounts

  • Strict sequential payment ordering and timing enforcement

  • Payment limits enforced at the smart contract level

Technical Implementation

The feature supports all ERC20 currencies across 7 networks (Ethereum, Polygon, Arbitrum, Gnosis, Base, BSC, and Sepolia). The system automatically handles:

  • Token allowance management for the recurring payment contract

  • Automated payment triggering at scheduled intervals

  • Real-time webhook notifications for payment.confirmed and payment.failed events

  • Comprehensive status tracking and failure recovery

Note: While the API supports all networks, the EasyInvoice demo app currently offers recurring payments on Sepolia only, with support for FAU, USDC, and USDT tokens.

Use Cases in Action
  • Subscription Revenue: SaaS platforms can now collect membership fees on-chain with predictable recurring revenue

  • DAO Funding: Decentralized organizations can automate budget distributions to working groups

  • Membership Platforms: NFT communities and premium content hubs can collect dues seamlessly

Enhanced API Portal: Test Webhooks & Self-Service Production Keys 🔧

We've significantly improved the Request Network API Portal to give developers more control and better testing capabilities.

New Test Webhook Feature

Developers can now test their webhook integrations directly from the API Portal without creating actual payments. Simply select an event type (like payment.confirmed or payment.failed) and send a test webhook to verify your endpoint is working correctly. Each test webhook includes:

  • Proper signature verification with your webhook secret

  • A special x-request-network-test: true header to identify test events

  • Mock payload data matching real webhook structures

Clarified API Key Access

We've improved the API key creation flow to make it crystal clear what developers can access:

Self-Service Production Keys: App builders can now generate production API keys immediately - no approval needed! These keys provide full access to all Request Network API features.

Live Crypto-to-Fiat Environment: The only feature requiring manual approval is access to the live crypto-to-fiat payment environment (which involves real bank transfers). Users without this permission see no crypto-to-fiat options in their key creation flow.

Users without access to Live Crypto-to-fiat won’t see any options when creating API keys.

Users with access to Live Crypto-to-fiat will see this simplified interface for creating API keys.

Users will see this warning dialog when creating API keys with access to Live Crypto-to-Fiat.

New Currency Conversion Routes Endpoint 🌐

We've added a powerful new API endpoint to help developers discover conversion payment possibilities:

GET /v2/currencies/{currencyId}/conversion-routes

This endpoint returns a list of all currencies that can be converted from a specified currency for conversion payments, where requests are denominated in one currency (like USD) but paid in another currency (like USDC or DAI) using on-chain price feeds.

Perfect for:

  • Building conversion payment interfaces that show available stablecoin options for fiat-denominated requests

  • Validating conversion paths before creating USD/EUR requests that will be paid in crypto

  • Supporting multi-currency payment flows for conversion payments

Example: Query conversion routes for USD to see all supported stablecoins that can be used to pay USD-denominated requests across all networks, or filter by specific network.

Highlights from July

The Accountant Quits now accepts stablecoin payments via Request Network API

The Accountant Quits, a leading voice in Web3 accounting education, has integrated stablecoin payments into the checkout of its Crypto Accounting Academy using the Request Network API. Accountants can now enroll and settle the fee directly in stablecoins.

This step not only makes education more accessible for crypto-native accountants but also shows how easy it is for any business to accept stablecoin payments.

To help others, The Accountant Quits shared a video walkthrough of the integration process so builders can replicate it for their own products or services.

Best Pull Request Initiative

The governance has once again voted the value of community contributions. In Q2, the Best Pull Request Initiative award goes to Piji (@pclaesen) for his improvements to EasyInvoice, the demo tool encapsulating Request Network's API capabilities.

The prize comes with a $500 reward in REQ, but the real impact lies in making Request Network’s open-source infrastructure stronger and more user-friendly. Contributions like these ensure that builders and businesses relying on Request Network benefit from continuous improvements driven by the community.
