Greetings, Request Network community!

Welcome to the Request Network ecosystem update for April 2025. The Ecosystem Update focuses on protocol usage and our vision to build an ecosystem of decentralized apps for payment requests.

The current ecosystem built around the Request Network protocol includes the following builders: Huma Finance (lending and borrowing), Animal Social Club (donation platform), Joba Network (future-of-work platform), BSOS (supply chain financing), intrXn, Hyprsqrl, Allora and Request Finance (invoicing, payments, and payroll). If you’re interested in what we are building together with the previously mentioned companies and want to share your vision with us, don’t hesitate to apply to our grants program.

Tech update

Crosschain Payments - Deployed! 🎉🚢

In April, we deployed Crosschain Payments in the Request Network API and EasyInvoice to our production environment!

Reiterating from last month’s update, crosschain payments allow users to pay a request using a stablecoin from a different blockchain network than the one specified on the request. For example, a payer can pay a request for USDC on Base using USDT from their USDT balance on OP Mainnet (Optimism).

Benefits:

  • Flexibility: Payers can pay with their preferred currency.

  • Cost-effective: Automated routing balances cost and speed.

  • Time-saving: Payers don't need to swap or bridge tokens manually.

  • Simplified UX: Payment settlement requires only 1 or 2 signatures from the Payer.

Watch crosschain payments in action on our YouTube channel.

Try out crosschain payments using EasyInvoice.

> **Note**: Correction to the Ecosystem Update March 2025:

  • ⚠️Support for Polygon was delayed until a future release.

  • The minimum Amount for crosschain payment is 1 (down from 2)

Crypto-to-fiat Payments - In Progress 🚧

In April, the Request Network Tech team was heads down working on adding crypto-to-fiat payments in both the Request Network API and EasyInvoice. We’ll have more details next month!

Highlights from April

Best ecosystem project in Q1 2025

We’ve talked about launching more community/governance initiatives, and we’re happy to announce that the community voted Allora Finance the Best Ecosystem Project in Q1 2025. This means that our friends from Allora Finance will receive $1000 as a prize. More information about this initiative can be found here.

New Developer: Kerry Mahne

We’re thrilled to announce that Kerry Mahne has joined Request Network as a Web3 developer. Kerry’s Web3 journey started in 2015, when smart contracts were still fresh from the oven. Since then, he has:

• Scaled digital identity at GlobaliD
• Built real-world credit lines for crypto collateral at Archie Finance
• Made DAOs friendlier at Colony, introducing multi-sig decision flows and cross-chain transactions.

At Request Network, he’ll help builders integrate with our protocol to create seamless, verifiable payments and invoices on-chain. Connect with Kerry on LinkedIn.

ETH Bucharest - conference & hackathon

Part of the team traveled to Bucharest during the first week of April for the second edition of ETHBucharest. This year, we decided to sponsor the hackathon with a different-than-usual bounty, giving each successful Request Network integration $300. Out of 35 projects, we had seven amazing projects to judge. Check them out!

Paris Blockchain Week - conference

To achieve inner (protocol) balance, the builder-focused ETHBucharest event was followed by Paris Blockchain Week, a business and institutional event. We’re happy to have met with a couple of companies we have been talking to for a while, and figure out how our infrastructure can best serve them. Aside from the hundreds of random encounters, of course!

Request Network Advocates

Community, meet your new Request Network Advocates 👏 Out of over 60 applications sent in during March, we have selected the following to represent and promote Request Network:

  • Piji is a long-time Request Network community member who’s into coding and accounting.

  • Donatus is a former Request Network hackathon winner and a member of Superteam Nigeria.

  • Vedant (Envoy) is also a Request Network hackathon alumnus with Web3 ambassador experience.

Looking forward to the many contributions from this dream team!

Protocol Puzzles series

Our commitment to growing and fostering a community of builders continues with the launch of Protocol Puzzles, a series of Web3 developer challenges. How does it work? We post a challenge on social media on Friday and answer on Monday, only on our Discord. While it may seem complicated, we wish to discuss the challenges and possible improvements they may bring to our infrastructure.

Protocol usage in April

The above visual illustrates Request Network transactions (e.g., invoice creation, approval, and/or rejection).

We couldn’t break the record previously set in March, most likely because of choppy market conditions. However, the numbers are still impressive, with almost 40,000 individual transactions! All in all, there is an increase of nearly 60% when looking at transactions over the last 90 days.

Note: a batched transaction can contain multiple individual transactions (such as in the case of a company’s payroll process). The token burn occurs once per batch transaction.

ABOUT REQUEST NETWORK

The Request Network Foundation’s mission is to re-invent accounting and finance by creating a decentralized network of interoperable apps that promotes transparency and real-time reporting.

We inspire and educate developers, partners, and authorities to use Request Network and build an open-source, seamless, and interoperable financial ecosystem.

We’re building a network that connects businesses worldwide, giving them ways to do business at the speed of the internet.

Be a part of tomorrow’s financial revolution.
